Dog racing is finally prohibited
We use dogs for many good reasons. This is the case with therapies, such as with autistic children, cancer detection or assistance with guide dogs, etc. However, they are also used for more obscure purposes. Now let’s look at the case of fighting and dog racing.
Different organizations have struggled for years to end it. So far, no big breakthrough has come to fruition. Indeed, despite the sanctions provided for by law, it is not always easy to find those responsible. However, great news has come to us and we need to share it with you. Dog racing is now prohibited!
The ban on dog racing
This new touch particularly Argentina, a country where the greyhound races were numerous. After numerous demonstrations and petitions from citizens , the government has decided to consider the possibility of further examining this question.
The government then set up your own for or against this cruel action by many people. However, the decision was not an easy one. There was even a revolt outside the door of the Congress.
On the one hand, activists in favor of banning these races arrived very early to do what is called a surveillance process. Meanwhile, those who were against the ban wanted to do the same. It is they, called “galgueros”, who control the races.
There is not much to explain about what happened a few minutes later. A long day of insults, shouts and even pushes took place. She reached such a point that the police intervened to stop the blood from spilling. Because we know very well that when we defend something that is close to our hearts, we put our body and soul into it.
The interior was no different. Many have abstained from elsewhere. Those who opposed their ban (perhaps because they benefited from it) fought to change the minds of others.
However, the victory was overwhelming : 132 votes in favor, 17 against and 23 abstentions, which indicates that the country will then ban racing.
What will be the sanctions?
The law, drafted by the Senator of the Civic Coalition, prohibits the racing of dogs of any breed. It doesn’t matter if they are greyhounds or not. Those who want to break the law and organize these races face prison terms ranging from 3 months to 4 years. But also fines ranging from $ 4,000 to $ 80,000.
The non-profit organizations that have fought to achieve this are delighted. One of them, Proyecto Galgos , clarified the need to make these careers illegal and create prison sentences and economic sanctions.
This is what they explained to one of the local newspapers:
“Racing is a business in which gray greyhounds are a product that is used for millions of dollars in prizes, bets and treatment sales. “
“The greyhounds are locked in total darkness to break their character. The breeders tie them up with ropes and make them run on the course where the dogs fall or get burned. At six months, they start giving them medication to make them better runners. These drugs contain strychnine, arsenic, ephedrine, Viagra estroids.
Ten minutes before running, they receive a final injection in the neck or on the chest. It may contain methamphetamines and even liquid cocaine with vitamins.
According to veterinarian Andrea Diratchette: “After a race on Sunday we have dogs with fractures, systemic problems, cardiac arrests, sudden deaths. Those who are injured are forced to stand up. They lift them and, even if they are fractured, make them rise in the same way. “
Finally, after reading these comments, it is clear that there was an urgent need to ban dog racing . We are delighted!
