Caterham Super Seven 1600: even more vintage!

Good morning all. In this release of deconfinement, I offer you today a little fresh air, something invigorating: the Caterham Super Seven 1600. A special edition that wants to surf even more than the other models of the brand on the vintage look with the spare tire as standard, the elongated front fenders (whereas usually these are small mud flaps that just surround the wheel), a stainless steel pot and if you lift the hood, these large air filters which would have hidden double-barrel carburetors a few years ago, but which of course now hide injectors. The technical part is the same as that of Caterham 275, namely under the hood a 1.6 l atmospheric 4-cylinder Ford original 135 hp. Largely sufficient on paper since the machine weighs less than 600 kg.

The interior also plays the vintage card with old-fashioned counters surrounded by chrome and standard leather upholstery. However, the wooden steering wheel is optional: as standard, it is made of leather. There are also some chrome switches but others in black plastic denote frankly. And then this warning light for seat belt non-fastening borders on anachronism … Our car has the S3 chassis, that is to say narrow, as opposed to the wider SV chassis. And in this configuration, the passenger compartment is very narrow at the elbows while the very close crankset can cause simultaneous support on the brake and the accelerator: be careful with the shoes you wear, you will quickly have the impression of being in Moonboot … We love, on the other hand, the gear lever with ultra-short deflections. And if the equipment is obviously Spartan, there is still heating …

Caterham Super Seven 1600: unique sensations!

Caterham Super Seven 1600: € 46,000 of totally irrational pleasure

Note that there is obviously no controlled suspension, but 3 suspension configurations to choose from when ordering: road, sport or track. We had the most flexible. An autoblocker is also available as an option at € 1,545. Which brings us to the price: our non-optional equipment costs € 46,000, which is € 8,000 more than the basic Caterham 275. It’s expensive for a little more look without additional technical benefits. But in any case, such a machine obviously does not constitute a rational purchase given the absence of equipment and practical aspects. If you have the means, you will have quite unique driving pleasure, and you will not come across many others on the road!
